House on Shackley Hill farm - located on the Nansemond River. Rumor had it that a liquor still was located in a barn near the house, and the pipe for the smoke ran underground to connect with the chimney in the house. Nansemond River was close behind the house. Some maps show Shackley Hill Island offshore from the property.
The Garner and Knight families once lived here.
