Duck Taylor’s Store

Duck Taylor’s StoreThis store was located between Brown and Wren Roads on the right hand side of the road coming from Suffolk just before you got to Chuckatuck High School.  The store was owned by Mr. Frank Hall and run by him for a period of time, then operated by his brother, Henry Hall.  It was then rented to Duck Taylor.  Like most of the other stores it was a general merchandise store and catered to the local African American community in that part of Chuckatuck and Oakland.  The store was opened in XXXX and closed in XXXX.  One particular point of interest was that it was the normal parking place for Buddy Chappel’s Taxi service from Smithfield.  On most any Saturday night there would be dancing until the wee hours of the morning as noted by Clarice Graves Whitfield, an active participant in the GCHF book project.
